January 28, 2015: Westridge Elementary School is experiencing intermittent telephone service. Verizon crews are working to correct the problem. In the meantime, school remains open as normal. Thank you for your patience.
Distribution of Report Cards has been changed from February 3 to February 4, barring any further inclement weather.

Debido al Código Rojo declarado el martes 27 de enero de 2015, la distribución de las Tarjetas de Calificaciones ha sido trasladada del 3 al 4 de febrero, a menos que se cancelen las clases por mal tiempo.

Multi-Cultural Assembly- We Need Help!!
The specialists are busy planning for the upcoming multicultural assemblies and food tasting. But we need your help! We are in need of the following: donations of cases of water, parents willing to bring in bite-size samples of food from their culture for students to try, and volunteers willing to display items from other countries. You can sign up online at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094aa8ab2fa4f58-multicultural. A letter will be coming home with further details. Email Mrs. Hawkins at HawkinsJR@pwcs.edu with any questions! Thanks :)
LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS for our multicultural celebration
As in past multicultural programs, we will open up our assemblies to allow any individual child or small group to demonstrate a musical skill/game/dance from their family's ethnic background. These children must be fully prepared to play/dance/sing for their activity, as no guidance will be offered during the performance. Performance should be no longer than two minutes in length. Please watch for a permission slip to be brought home if your student is interested in performing or go to the music page to download and print.
Any child wishing to perform a song/dance/musical game for this special event will need to be screened on Thursday, February 5th, after school, from 4-5:15p.mThere will be no make-up date.
On that day, they would report to Mr. Steimer and Mrs. Hawkins directly after school. They need to have their song/activity prepared, along with any costume or music recordings that they require. Due to limited time and space during the assemblies, we can only accept a limited number of individual performers. Therefore, with regret, we will not be able to choose everyone who comes for this screening process. Only those students who perform their piece independently and fluidly will be chosen to perform for the assembly.

PTA Used Book Fair
The Westridge PTA is looking for donations of elementary level used books for our Used Book Fair and Seusstastic Celebration. We are in need of books for 5th graders and below. We need fiction, nonfiction, board books, craft books and cookbooks too.

Books can be dropped off in the box outside of the Library or in the Front Office.
More Information to follow! Email Questions to: Jen at jenianddan@aol.com or Adriane at ACEJA42@aol.com.

Please see the flier from our PTA for more details.
Change in Walker Dismissal Procedure
Starting on Monday, January 12, 2015, a new dismissal procedure and time will begin for all of our students who walk home from school each day. Due to concerns for the safety of all our Westridge students and families, walkers will now be dismissed at 4:00 p.m. from door 10. Several factors including the high volume of cars parked along Knightsbridge Drive, cars parked in the designated No Parking area, U-Turns, and the high volume of vehicles have made the conditions hazardous for our families who walk.

By dismissing the walker students at 4:00 p.m., it is my hope that the volume of vehicles will be significantly less, and therefore provide a safer environment for our families who walk home. I have also contacted the Prince William County Police and have asked that the area be patrolled during our dismissal time, again to ensure the safety of our families.

Please remember that the policy of Westridge is that students who are car riders are picked up inside the school parking lot in the designated areas. I realize that at times this line may move slowly, but our procedures are put in place to ensure the safety of all our families.

Box Tops Update

Congratulations to Mr. Sample's class who won the latest Box Tops contest with a total of 459 Box Tops submitted! In all, our students collected and turned in over 7000 Box Tops and earned $700 for our school. The next contest ends February 27th. Please turn in Box Tops by checking the expiration date and then gluing or taping them to a collection sheet or placing them in a baggie. Be sure to put your teacher's name on it!

The Science Fair is Coming to Westridge
The annual Westridge Science Fair will be held for 5th Graders on February 18th, 2015. Students who want to participate will get an interest form in their math/science class on Wednesday, December 17th, 2014. These interest forms are due January 7th, 2015. Upon turning this in, students will get the Project Application and a Science Fair Handbook.

Students will then turn in the formal Project Application on January 14th, 2015, one week later.

Meetings with Mr. Hoyle will be on January 21st, 2015 with each person or group who turns in an application; however, students can start working on their project as early as they like (if something needs to be changed, Mr. Hoyle will let you know at your meeting on the 21st, so you still have time to do it!).

All projects will be due on February 18th.

There are no exceptions or extensions to the dates, unless a “Snow Day” occurs ON A DUE DATE, in which case the form would be due the NEXT school day.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hoyle, HoyleBM@pwcs.edu.
Student Art to be Displayed in Richmond
Please join us in congratulating Kate H. and Stephen T, 4th graders in Hoyle and Dierlam's classes. Their Eagle collages were chosen to be displayed at the Virginia Capitol building. The exhibit for "Art Day at the Capitol" will be in Richmond. They will be invited to attend a reception, a tour of the Capitol, and view a session of the House in February 2015. If you see them, congratulate them!

Traffic Concerns on Knightsbridge Drive
To our Westridge Families:

Please remember to drive safely and watch out for our children during pick up and drop off. Please remember that all car riders should be picked up in the school parking lot and not on Knightsbridge Drive. The exit at door 10 is intended for walkers only.

Thank you for ensuring the safety of all our children
Cafeteria Menu
Our cafeteria has a variety of menu options for our students each day. New this year, please see the Prince William County Schools calendar that came home on the first day of school. Behind each month is that month's menu. You can also view the menu online under our Cafeteria section to the left.
