Our thoughts and prayers are with the children and families touched by the tragedy in Oklahoma.
School Announcements
ERC
Just a reminder that there will be no ERC meeting on May 31st.  The last ERC meeting is June 7th! Please check out the ERC webpage under Student Activities to stay up to date.
Tdap for rising Grade 6 students
All sixth grade students will need to get a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster shot prior to the start of school in September, 2013, unless fewer than five years have passed since their last Tdap immunization.
If you haven’t already done so, please submit the paperwork from your doctor to the school nurse. If your child doesn’t turn 11 until the summer, get the vaccine done right after the birthday, then take the paper work into the middle school. Please note, your child will not be able to start middle school if they are 11 and have not had the vaccine. All Prince William County Public School students must meet all Virginia immunization requirements. Thank you.
Kindergarten Concert
Our kindergarten students can sing....and dance...and follow their musical director, Mrs. Eberhardt!  We are so proud of all of the kindergarten students for learning so much this year, thanks to their own hard work and the work of all of their teachers!   Be sure and check the Latest News in Photos to see still pictures of our students singing and dancing!  They were so professional!
Career Day
Westridge: Career Day is just around the corner!  And we desperately need presenters!  Please consider asking your parents, relatives and friends to share their careers with us!  Career Day is June 12th.  Have your presenter contact Mrs. Fasana
Mr. Boyd

Westridge Elementary School welcomes our newly appointed principal, Mark A. Boyd. Please read his introductory letter to our Westridge community!

Happy Mother's Day
We hope all of our Westridge moms had a very Happy Mother's Day .  The first grade classes held their annual Mother's Day Tea.  Please see our beautiful moms and their children in the Latest News in Photos.
Another great cafeteria contest
The cafeteria is running a contest. We are focusing on protein this month.  Students are asked to draw a picture of a healthy protein choice. There are "ideas" on the cafeteria door, or ask one of the cafeteria staff. Students should put their name on their picture, and hand it in to the cafeteria. This contest will run until May 17, and then there will be random drawings. Several prizes will be given away!
Field Day
A great big thank you to Mrs. Mumley, and numerous parent volunteers, for another fantastic field day!  One of our dads, Mr. Aragon, has shared photos of the fun.  K-2 photos and Grades 3-5 are in the Latest News in Photos.
Space Day
How can we ever thank our first grade teachers for Space Day?!!  Our first grade students, wearing their helmets and power packs (huge thank you to parent volunteers) participated in 5 different stations, to create various space projects.  Check it all out in Latest News in Photos.
Volunteer Luncheon
The Westridge faculty and staff hosted a thank you luncheon for our parent volunteers.  The KORT officers stopped in as well to personally acknowledge how the parents help our students.  There are a few photos in the Latest News in Photos of the luncheon.
PTA Fun Run
A great big THANK YOU to Mrs. Denton and her Fun Run crew for a fabulous morning.  There are four slideshows from this great event in the Latest News in Photos.  We are so proud of our runners!
School Library Week
In celebration of School Library Week, the KORT officers presented Mrs. Metro and Mrs. Combs with flowers as a token of thanks from the Westridge students.  They provide us with an orderly and up to date library, and offer help and wonderful lessons to support us as we learn everyday.  Thank you Mrs. Metro and Mrs. Combs!
Multicultural Celebration
A big thank you to Mrs. Eberhardt for organizing and orchestrating our multicultural celebration again this year.  Check out the Latest News in Photos to see just a few of the festivities.
And a note from Mrs. Eberhardt: Our Multi-cultural event was a big hit!  The performances at the assembly were wonderful and the kids told me they enjoyed it very much.  Thanks to all who were involved in helping with the assemblies.  Friday's food sampling day was yummy as usual!  The students absolutely love this day and we explained to them the commitment it takes for the parents who volunteer their time and food just for them.  We  had plenty of water!!!  Thank you to all of the parents who donated water bottles.
Box Tops
Please send in all of your Labels For Education bar codes, especially Pepperidge Farms as there is 1250pt. bonus if we send in 125 Pepperidge Farms and 125 regular Bar codes. Please glue or tape 25 Regular (.10) Box Tops to any sheet of paper or just send in what you have in a sandwich bag with the teacher's name clearly written.  Remember to go through the Box Tops website to do your online shopping. Westridge earns A LOT more cash when you do this.  Please check out the stores by clicking here.  (The number in the pink Box Top by the store name is how many Box Tops are earned per $10 spent.)

Congratulations to Ms. Stark's class for collecting the most Box Tops for the Spring contest! They brought in 340 Box Tops!  Our school collected a total of 3,992 Box Tops which is equal to $399.20!  Our next contest ends June 7th.
KORT Wacky Head Day
Wacky Head Day was a big success!  Thank you KORT officers!  About 100 photos have been published in Latest News in Photos.  Personally, I think our Westridge Knights looked great even when they were a little wacky!
County Art Festival - Art and Music!
The Prince William County Art Festival was held Saturday, April 6th, at Hyton High School.  The various forms of art work made us proud.

Our chorus sang mostly show tunes, in their usual excellent singing voices, to a cheering crowd of parents.  We are so proud of our students!

A give a great big thank you to both Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Eberhardt for their extra dedication to our students.

Watch the Latest News in Photos to see this year's work!

Web page change
For your convenience, the web pages for the school nurse and our counselors will be located in the Left Link "About Our School".  Mrs. Sharma, Mrs. Fasana and Mrs. Butler frequently add important forms and links to their web pages, in addition to the basic necessary information.  Please check their pages, as well as the other pages on our web site, on a regular basis as the information is updated often.  Our web page is another means of communication to you, our Westridge families!  We hope you enjoy it!
There's alot more cooking in the cafeteria than just good food!
Have you visited your child’s school cafeteria this year?  If you have, you might have seen some changes on the lunch line.  The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) set new rules for school lunches that mirror the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.  These change have increased the amount of fruits and vegetables children receive on their lunch trays.  Why is it so important for kids to eat enough fruits and vegetables?  Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, which are substances that can decrease our risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.  They also contain vitamins and minerals that boost the immune system and help to keep us from getting sick.
Sadly, most kids don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.  Studies show that only one in five children eat the required number of servings of fruits and vegetables each day.  The good news is that kids who buy breakfast and lunch at school tend to eat less calories and more balanced meals, including more fruits and vegetables.  If you have questions about the meal programs at our school, visit http://pwcs.menus.schoolfusion.us/ for more information.
We love dogs too but...
We love dogs too, but just a reminder that dogs, except service dogs, are not allowed on school grounds during the school day or when students are in attendance.  Buses arrive as early as 8:50 AM and dismissal is usually over by 3:50 PM.  This restriction is due to safety concerns for the over 700 students who attend Westridge.   Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
