It pays to eat in the cafeteria!
Our cafeteria serves delicious food every day, but now they've sweeten the pot!  They are giving prizes away dailly, and adults are included.  To qualify just eat breakfast or lunch from the cafeteria!  This is a win/win for everyone at Westridge.  See the daily menu in the side link to help you make a delicious choice!  Congratulations to our first winner!
Sigrest wins big at County Science Fair
Westridge's own Eleanor Sigrest won the grand prize in physics at the PWC-Manassas Regional Science Fair Junior Division for her project "Does Size Matter".  Her experiment involved the different sound qualities of different sized violins  We are so proud of her!

New Dismissal Time in Effect
Remember that due to our snowy winter,  all Prince William County elementary schools will dismiss 10 minutes later than their original time.  Westridge's new dismissal time is 3:50 PM.
Odyssey of the Mind

The Northern Virginia South Region 12 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament was held March 22nd.  Four Westridge teams competed in two problems, “It’s How We Rule” [Team Vitela, Team Venteicher, Team Mckeown]  and “The Not-So Haunted House” [Team Venturino].  All the teams performed exceptionally well.  This tournament was the culmination of over 5 months of hard work solving a very involved long-term problem and many sessions of spontaneous practice.

Team Venturino placed first in the Not-So Haunted House problem and will be moving on to the Virginia State tournament on April 26th.  The top two teams from VA States go on to World Finals in May.

The Not-So Haunted House problem
is to create and present an original performance that includes a “pop-up-style”not-so-haunted “house” where four special effects take place. The intent of the special effects were to scare others but, they produced a different result instead. The performance included at least one character that experienced the special effects and a narrator who relayed the experiences to the audience. It also included a surprise ending.

We are so proud of all of our Odyssey of the Mind teams!

Artists and Authors lead to Excellence!
Dr. Walts presented Westridge with its 11th School of Excellence Award on March 20.  He attributed our success to a combination of our devoted parents, dedicated teachers and hardworking students.  Please check out the Latest News in Photos to see both the slideshow commemorating the year long efforts leading up to the award, and photos of our families as they enjoyed the Artists and Authors evening following the celebration.
